New customers of Verizon’s industry-leading FiOS broadband and video services, provided over the company’s fiber-to-the-premises network, will now receive the most advanced in-home broadband networking router available today.
The new router – designed and built to Verizon’s specifications and supplied by Actiontec Electronics of Sunnyvale, Calif. – is the basis of Verizon’s digital home architecture, and is capable of providing connectivity to the FiOS network at speeds of up to100 megabits per second (Mbps). It leverages existing in-home wiring for broadband data and video signals and delivers easy, high-quality, more reliable home-networking solutions to provide connectivity to the increasing number of connected consumer devices.

Sleeker, more powerful and more flexible than the current Verizon One device, the next-generation command center features a digital cordless phone mounted on a tablet-sized base. The new device will accommodate both traditional and VoIP phone calls, while also streaming music from the Internet to be replayed over attached stereo speakers and previewing images or video from digital cameras or camcorders. It will also play movie trailers from the Internet, connect to a printer and support a total of up to five handsets throughout the home.
Additional features planned for the future would allow customers to access traffic reports; order a pizza or movie tickets online; and send memos or text messages to family members.

Home Media DVR features a multiroom DVR that enables up to three simultaneous viewings of programs recorded by the device without requiring customers to set up a complex home network or buy extra equipment. The recorder is bundled with Media Manager, a new feature that lets customers easily access photos and music from their personal computer and play them on their entertainment center where they look and sound the best. Both functions are made possible by software and technology already built into the FiOS platform on Verizon's fiber-to-the-premises network.

Verizon just opened the passing lane on the Internet turnpike for consumers and small businesses in parts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, while reducing tolls for the fastest drivers.
Verizon is increasing the maximum connection speed of its fastest FiOS Internet Service for consumers from 30 Mbps downstream/ 5 Mbps upstream to 50/5 Mbps, and lowering the price of that offering by $40 per month. In addition, Verizon has pumped up the speed of its mid-level FiOS Internet Service for consumers from 15 Mbps downstream /2 Mbps upstream to 20/5 Mbps.
Speeds for small businesses have been increased as follows: 15/2 to 20/5, 5/5 to 35/10 and 30/5 to 50/10. |
