Motorola QIP6416 Media HD-DVR FiOS TV Box

Digital video recorders (DVRs), which record TV programs to a hard drive, are transforming the way people watch television. Now, Verizon is transforming the DVR as they introduce Home Media DVR to Verizon FiOS TV customers

This is the QIP6416 Media HD/DVR FiOS TV Box. Notice it has the same Model number as the DVR box. The Hardware is the same but the software in the "Media HD/DVR Box" has been tweaked. It allows you to do a bunch more things than what the plain DVR offers.

Home Media DVR features a multiroom DVR that enables up to three simultaneous viewings of programs recorded by the device without requiring customers to set up a complex home network or buy extra equipment. The recorder is bundled with Media Manager, a new feature that lets customers easily access photos and music from their personal computer and play them on their entertainment center where they look and sound the best. Both functions are made possible by software and technology already built into the FiOS platform on Verizon's fiber-to-the-premises network.

Does the DVR need to stay on all the time? It will record when the power is off, so is there a reason to keep it on? Of course the manual says nothing. Thanks, Matt.

    Random Pick
Verizon Telecom filed a federal lawsuit against Montgomery County, Md., charging that its unreasonable and illegal cable-franchising process and demands have prevented them from bringing video choice and competition to the county's residents.

"Competition will bring lower prices, more innovation and better quality," Frantz said. "It's past time for Montgomery County residents to join their neighbors in Howard County and northern Virginia who are reaping the benefits of cable competition and choice."

In other markets where Verizon has introduced FiOS TV - including neighboring Howard County - cable incumbents have responded with lower prices; more innovative bundled offerings of phone, broadband and video service; and increased broadband speeds.
